Situated in Monterey Park, California, the Regan Career Institute has had a number of MA related courses on offer for some time, and has recently had their Medical Assistant Program & MA Plus courses accredited by California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE).
Their Medical Assistant program includes standard subjects as:
- Administrative Tasks
- Records Management
- Medical Insurance
- Medical Report Transcription
- Appointment Scheduling
- Preparation of Patients for Examination
- Assisting in Minor Surgery
- Giving Injections
It takes 10 months to complete both the Medical Assistant and MA+ programs at the Regan Career Institute.
The combined MA+ program allows you to qualify for three certificates:
- Medical Assistant National Certificate (MA)
- Electrocardiography Certificate (EKG)
- State Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certificate (CPT1)
Once the class room component of the course has been completed, you then have another 5 weeks of training in a clinical externship.
If you elect to take the MA+ program, you will also study Phlebotomy and Electrocardiography at the same time, which means you get the additional classes without the course taking any longer to complete.
Although the Regan Career Institute say that the certificates are recognized both in California and nationwide, the college itself does not currently appear to be accredited by either the CAAHEP or ABHES.
Furthermore, they provide no information on their website about the employment success rate of students who have completed their programs, or their costs. There is also no information provided about which Federal Aid Programs may help you pay for the program.
